Under normal circumstances, dry polyacrylamide granule or powder can be stored in a dry, cool place for more than two years, but the prepared solution has a very limited storage time. The shelf life of the solution is related to the dilution concentration. When the standard solution concentration is 0.1%, the anionic polyacrylamide solution’s shelf life does not exceed one week; the cationic polyacrylamide solution’s shelf life does not exceed one day, and the stability of the solution is also related to the concentration of the solution.

Polyacrylamide is more sensitive to iron ions, calcium ions and magnesium ions than anionic polymers. Iron ions are the catalyst that causes all polyacrylamide chemical degradation. Therefore, when preparing, transferring and storing polyacrylamide solutions, the entry of iron ions should be avoided as much as possible. The equipment in contact with the solution should be made of stainless steel, plastic, glass fiber reinforced plastic or carbon steel with surface coating resin.
